State Representative, Colorado House District 38
Thank you for visiting our website! My name is Joe Rice. I have the honor of representing House District 38 in the Colorado State House of Representatives at the State Capitol in Denver.
We have much to be thankful for in Colorado: a beautiful state, a great quality of life, and an economy that continues to attract new industries and jobs, despite tough economic times. But we must continue taking the steps necessary to preserve and enhance the quality of life in our state for both current and future generations.
In addition to serving as a state representative and working in private business when the legislature is not in session, I have been a member of the United States Army Reserve for over twenty years, and am now a Colonel. In that capacity, I have been called to active duty beginning May 16, 2009 and will be deployed to Iraq later this month for about six months of duty. This will be my fourth time in Iraq with the Army Reserve.
While being away from home for six months will not be easy on me or my family, I am able to stay in touch with constituents and work on policy issues during my off-duty hours. Although I will be gone for a few months from my district, I will still stay in touch with my home community. I have an amazing group of volunteers that will be helping me stay informed and to prepare for the next legislative session that begins in January 2010.
During the 2009 legislative sessions, we passed a number of laws to help our economy be more productive, our schools more effective, and our health care more affordable. We also rocketed Colorado to the forefront of the new energy economy, implementing a number of measures to promote the development of renewable energy in Colorado.
Major issues still facing Colorado include comprehensive healthcare reform, how to further improve education, continuing to promote a healthy business climate, protecting our environment, and furthering our use of renewable energy.
Please let me know your questions and thoughts on issues important to you. I'd love to hear from you, and I promise to get back in touch with you personally. For more information on bills I sponsored in the 2009 legislative session, go to the Colorado House Majority website.
Sincerely,
Joe Rice
